Heterarchical
I just learned a new word, "heterarchy"--a system of organization in which members are unranked, or can be ranked in many ways. Heterarchy is, or should be, perfect for education and for schools. Clearly, there are learner-centered and teacher-centered approaches and views, and these frequently coexist. In many countries, these are augmented by "system-centered" or top-down approaches that follow a model of centralization. (For better and worse, in the US we perhaps can see that our federalist approach to education [and possibly to voting] has some downsides.)
